Strawberry ice cream never seems to lose its appeal. For many people it is the symbol of sunny, summer days. Fresh, juicy strawberries are wonderful to eat just on their own of course and with a dollop of cream they make a fantastic dessert but fresh homemade strawberry ice cream is, in to my mind, the perfect end to a meal on a summer's day. Even in between meals, a strawberrry ice cream cone is a real pleasure. If you don't want to use eggs, milk or cream in your recipe, you can always make a strawberry sorbet.

There are many varieties of strawberry and there is currently a resurgence of interest in growing older varieties, including ones that were previously thought 'uncommercial' because they didn't travel well. One such example is the strasberry - one of the most delightful fruits I've ever tasted.

Coming back to ice cream, only vanilla ice cream and chocolate ice cream are more popular than strawberry ice cream - according to my visitor statistics that is - followed by banana, choc chip, coffee, mint choc chip, butter pecan, coconut and green tea ice cream.

PAULA - THE ICE CREAM POLAR BEAR
This is Paula, the Polar Bear who loves ice cream cones! She was knitted for me by a dear cousin of mine, Iris. Knowing of my passion for ice cream, she made this for me as a surprise and I was thrilled. Apparently, the knitting pattern she used was very old which in itself reflects how much the ice cream cone has always been a part of our lives. Of all the teddy bears in our house, this one is certainly unique and I just had to give Paula her own place here in ice-cream-recipes.com.

Ice Cream Sundaes

Part of the fun of homemade ice cream, in my view at least, is to come up with your own ideas for ice cream sundaes. There's so much variation possible!

An ice cream sundae can be simple such as a vanilla ice cream sundae - follow the link and you'll see what I made using vanilla ice cream, a touch of chocolate sauce, cream and wafer curls.

There again, a sundae can be much more elaborate - like the chocolate banana sundae in this photograph. I made this with 3 scoops chocolate ice cream, fresh banana slices, chocolate sauce, a chocolate flake, squirter cream, a chocolate wafer curl and a glacé cherry to top it off. Almost a meal in itself!
